Thanks for all your comments, Shiloh. I'm so glad you found the videos helpful and that they had a personal impact. One cannot read Dostoevsky without it changes you somehow. As for the issue of forgiveness, it is a very difficult one.

Forgiveness is about freeing you, the one who was wounded, from resentment. But the issue of responsibility is a different one. Helping another take responsibility for their behavior is a very loving thing to do. But some people are best loved from a distance. You will need to discern what is best for you. Good luck with your paper!

It is a huge weight on ones shoulders to carry around guilt, I know this first hand. I recently was blessed with the chance to to say sorry and ask for forgiveness to someone I once hurt. I could not find him for many years, approx. 12. or more years. But I finally did, and when I got the chance to say sorry I felt such relief. I felt like a weight was lifted. However to be able to do that for every person I have ever hurt, would be impossible, and that is sad. What should one do when someone they are close to brings them down. They don't take responsibility for their actions and yet they seem to be there for you when you need them? What would balance that situation out?
