Raven Award for Excellence

in

Arts and Entertainment

was presented to

Heidi Stillman of Lookingglass Theatre

on April 26, 2010

As playwright George Bernard Shaw said, “We use a glass mirror to see our faces. We use the arts to see our souls.” With the presentation of the first Raven Award for Excellence in Art and Entertainment, we honored Lookingglass Theatre Ensemble Member Heidi Stillman, an artist who allowed us a glimpse of our souls with her adaptation and direction of Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov performed during the 2008 Lookingglass Season.

Enjoy a glimpse of the festitivities. Photographs by Brad Baskin of Brad Baskin Photography.

Listen  to the speakers - Keith Ross, Suzanne Ross, David Catlin, Andy White - as they celebrate Heidi Stillman and her artistic accomplishments. Copies of Keith's  and Suzanne's  speeches are available.

Raven Award Launch Party

Listen in as Founder Suzanne Ross interviews Heidi Stillman during the Award Launch Party.

The Raven Foundation seeks to make religion reasonable, violence unthinkable and peace a possibility.  By entering into the conversations taking place in the arts, entertainment and wider culture around war and peace, violence, identity and desire, we hope to challenge conventional wisdom and open pathways to authentically peaceful communities.

Description

Founded in 1898, the Woman's Athletic Club of Chicago is the first athletic club for women in America. Created "by ladies for ladies," it elected Mrs. Philip D. Armour its first president. The prestigious membership included prominent society and business names like McCormick, Ryerson and Swift. In 1929 the Club moved to its own building on North Michigan Avenue. In 1991 this architectural treasure, designed by renowned architect Philip B. Maher, received landmark status in recognition of its beautiful and historical exterior.
