But in the same chapter, Jesus says that some people are \u201cborn eunuchs for the kingdom of God.\u201d A eunuch was someone who didn\u2019t fit the \u201cmale and female\u201d binary, but was seen as a third gender. Jesus didn\u2019t quote Genesis to say that God only makes humans into male or female because he knew that God\u2019s creation is far more diverse.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>While some claim this passage describes Jesus talking about celibacy, in\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yumpu.com\/en\/document\/view\/9513172\/1-eunuchs-and-the-postgender-jesus-matthew-1912-and-\">Eunuchs and the Postgender Jesus<\/a>, <\/em>author\u00a0J. David Hester explains eunuchs were viewed in the ancient world as highly sexed and morally dubious, a “third type of human”.
